James Elder

I am a Professor and York Research Chair in Human and Computer Vision in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and the Department of Psychology at York University, and a member of York’s Centre for Vision Research.   My research seeks to improve machine vision systems through a better understanding of visual processing in biological systems. Current research is focused on natural scene statistics, perceptual organization, contour processing, shape perception, single-view 3D reconstruction, attentive vision systems and machine vision systems for dynamic 3D urban awareness.
